A feminist reading of Shakespeares The Taming of the Shew throws up some interesting questions for a modern audience. We can appreciate that this play was written over 400 years ago and, as a result, we can understand that values and attitudes towards women and their role in society were very different then than now.   Subordination This play is a celebration of a woman being subordinated. Not only does Katherine become the passive and obedient partner of Petruchio (due to his starving her of food and sleep) but she also adopts this view of women for herself and ​evangelizes this mode of being to other women. Her final speech dictates that women must obey their husbands and be grateful. She suggests that if women do contest their husbands, they come across as ‘bereft of beauty.’ They must look pretty and be quiet. She even suggests that the female anatomy is unsuitable for hard work, being soft and weak she is unsuited to toil and that a woman’s demeanour should be reflected by her soft and smooth exterior. Modern Contrasts This flies in the face of what we learn about women in today’s ‘equal’ society. However, when you consider one of the most successful books of recent times; Fifty Shades of Grey, about a young woman Anastasia learning to be subordinate to her sexually dominant partner Christian, a book particularly popular with women; one has to wonder whether there is something appealing to women about a man taking charge and ‘taming’ the female in the relationship? Increasingly, women are taking more high powered positions in the workplace and in society in general. Is the idea of a man taking on all the responsibility and burden of work more appealing as a result?   Would all women really prefer to be ’kept women’, with the small dispensation of having to obey your men folk in return? Are we willing to pay the price of male brutality over women for a quiet life as Katherine is? Hopefully the answer is no. Katherine - A Feminist Icon? Katherine is a character who initially speaks her mind she is strong and witty and is more intelligent than many of her male counterparts. This can be admired by a female readership.   Conversely, what woman would want to emulate Bianca’s character who is essentially just beautiful but unremarkable in other aspects of her character? Unfortunately it appears that Katherine wants to emulate her sister and eventually becomes even less willing than Bianca to challenge the men in her life as a result. Was the need for companionship more important to Katherine than her independence and individuality? One could argue that Women are still celebrated more for their beauty than for any other achievement in today’s society. Many women internalize misogyny and behave accordingly without even knowing it. Women like Rhianna cavort and look sexually available on MTV to buy into a male fantasy in order to sell their music. They shave all over in order to conform to the current male fantasy demonstrated in prolific pornography. Women are not equal in today’s society and one could argue that they are even less so than in Shakespeare’s day...at least Katherine was just made to be subordinate and sexually available to one man, not millions. How Do You Solve a Problem Like Katherine Feisty, outspoken, opinionated Katherine was a problem to be solved in this play. Perhaps Shakespeare was demonstrating the way in which women are beaten down, criticised and derided for being themselves and in an ironic way was challenging this? Petruchio is not a likable character; he agrees to marry Katherine for the money and treats her badly throughout, an audience’s sympathy is not with him. An audience may admire Petruchio’s arrogance and tenacity but we are also very aware of his brutality. Perhaps this makes him slightly attractive in that he is so manful, perhaps this is even more attractive to a modern audience who is tired of the metrosexual male and would like a resurgence of the cave man? Whatever the answer to these questions, we have somewhat established that women are only slightly more emancipated now than in Shakespeare’s Britain (even this contention is debateable). The Taming of The Shrew raises issues about female desire:   Do women really want a man to tell them what to do and take charge or is an equal partnership something they should be striving for?If a woman wants a man to be in charge does that make her an enemy of the feminist?If a woman enjoys the Taming of the Shrew or Fifty Shades of Grey (Sorry to compare the two, Fifty Shades of Grey is by no means on a par in literary terms!) is she internalising patriarchal control or responding to an innate desire to be controlled? Perhaps when women are fully emancipated these narratives will be rejected completely by women? Either way we can learn from The Taming of the Shrew about our own culture, predilections and prejudices.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002(SOX which is also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act was enacted in July, 30, 2002 as a prompt response to the financial crimes scandals (Adelphia, Enron, WorldCom, Peregrime Systems , Arther Anderson and Tyco International). MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC This week we have some advice passed on to me from best-selling author Karleen Koen. Your assignment: Write something, anything, every morning. No need for prompts like those we gave you in a recent post. No, this exercise is completely freestyle. Keep Your Mind and Fingers Nimble Every Day As a writer, even if you aren’t working on a particular project, you will benefit greatly from daily practice, like Hemingway’s write-500-words-every-single-day devotion we mentioned in a recent post. And as we’ve also said before, even the world’s greatest musicians practice on their instrument every day. They hone their skills, keep their artistic inspirations fresh, and even discover new things about their talent. Writing can actually be a lot like playing an instrument. Imagine sitting down at a piano and just playing around with the keys, plinking out a light, brief little ditty off the top of your head. Now compare that to sitting down in front of your computer and tapping out a few words, whatever comes to mind. You’re just goofing around, right? No pressure. But you may stumble across a good setting, a useful piece of imagery, or some clever dialogue. You may even get to meet a character screaming out that she has a story to tell you, speaking to you from your brain to your fingertips as you â€Å"jam† on your instrument of choice, be it your computer or one of those yellow legal notepads or a beautiful Moleskine. (Have you ever heard of a Moleskine? They are legendary little pocket journals used for scribbling inspirations and ideas, cherished by artistic geniuses like Van Gogh, Picasso, and our pal Hemingway.) Open Your Mind As Soon As You Open Your Eyes (and Maybe Yawn and Stretch, Too) Koen believes in writing first thing in the morning. To Koen, it’s an exercise to get her brain going, not an attempt to generate useable copy. She suggests taking just about fifteen minutes, or maybe just three pages, whatever comes first, and simply writing whatever comes to mind. Best of all, she does this even before the coffee is ready. You can do it while you’re still in bed, even. At that time of the morning, your mind is still half-asleep, with one foot still in the wonderful, bizarre world of your dreams, where some of the best ideas come from. Wash Your Face, Comb Your Hair . . . and Brush Up Your Writing Skills Add to your morning ablutions a rinsing of your thoughts. Let them wash away from your mind and onto the page. It may just be a few hundred words of randomness, a jumbled mix of what you dreamt the night before and what’s on your mind about what you have to do that day. But there’s more than one reason this little exercise is so valuable. Yes, it is a wonderful way to sow and eventually reap some great ideas, and practice is always beneficial, no matter what you are practicing. But you’ll have also put your thoughts in a writer’s mindset, right from the minute you wake up. You’ll be able to spend the rest of the day seeing the world through your writer’s eyes, even more sharply and acutely than you usually do. You will find a symphony of inspiration everywhere you look. I guess it’s like waking up and putting on your glasses right away so you can see more clearly. Oh, I could compare this exercise to a million different beneficial behaviors, but the bottom line is: it’s great. So tomorrow morning, give it a try!

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Free Online Research Papers A French physician more than 100 years ago first identified a disorder-once known as epiloia or Bourneville’s disease. Today it’s known as Tuberous sclerosis also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs , and the skin. It commonly affects the central nervous system and results in a combination of symptoms including seizures, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities, and kidney disease. I will look at the following: 1. Clinical manifestations 2. Diagnostic 3. Genetics of TSC 4. Signs and symptoms 5. Psychopharmacology in children with TS The manifestation of TSC is a disease that affects multiple organs such as skin, kidneys, brain, heart, eyes, lungs, teeth as well as other organ systems. However in most individuals the disease affects only some of the organs. TSC may present at birth, but signs of the disorder may take some time to develop. At least two children born each year will have TSC. Current estimates place TSC affected births at one in 6,000, nearly 1 million people worldwide and, approximately 50,000 in the Untied States. As a result, TSC is frequently unrecognized and misdiagnosed for years. The severity of TSC can range from mild skin abnormalities to, in severe cases, mental retardation and renal failure. Many TSC manifestations also develop later in life. Most individuals who are mildly affected lead active and productive lives. TSC is a life long disease and individuals should receive continuous follow-up care. In most cases the first clue to recognizing TSC is the presence of seizures or delayed development. In other cases the first sign might be white patched on the skin. Careful clinical exam in combination with CT or MRI of the brain may show tubers in the brain, and an ultra sound of the heart, liver, kidney scan show tumors there In July 1998 the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, convened a consensus conference of international experts to review the literature and the status of knowledge and research about TSC. One of the consensus panels developed a revised scheme for the TSC diagnostic criteria based on new clinical and molecular genetic studies. The new diagnostic criteria eliminated any single finding as specifically distinctive or characteristic of the disorder. Cortical tubers were believed to be pathognomonic of TSC. Evidence now suggests that radio graphic brain imaging and histologic studies are unable to distinguish these tubers from isolated cortical dysplasia. Subependymal giant cell astrocytomas and subependymal nodules can be distinguished from cortical tubers and from each other. The two subependymal lesions have a histologic and radiographic appearance that differs from the cortical tuber, whereas the giant cell astrocytomas is the only on that tends to enlarge. An important tool in diagnosing is its dermatologic manifestation, which comprises four major and one minor feature of TSC. Hypomelanotic macules are considered a new grouping, whereas the histologically similar forehead plaque, facial angiofibroma, and renal or other retinal hamartomas, are considered to major features used in diagnosis. Liver, spleen, rectal, or other lesions preferably Histologically confirmed hamartomatous lesions constitute minor features. TSC is caused by defects, or mutations, on two genes-TSC1 and TSC2. Only one gene needs to be affected for TSC to be present. The TSC1 gene is on chromosome 9 and produces a protein called hamartin. The TSC2 gene is on chromosome 16 and produces the protein tuberin. Scientists believe these proteins act as tumor growth suppressors, agents that regulate cell proliferation. Some individuals may inherit the disorder from a parent; most cases occur as spontaneous mutations. In other cases, TSC is an autosomal dominates disorder. Which means only one parent needs to have the gene, and each child has a 50% chance of developing the disorder. Some individuals acquire TSC through gonadal mosaicism. Approximately 33%, or 1/3, of the people with TSC inherits it from a parent who has it. Signs of discovery vary depending on which system and which organs are involved. Kidney problems such as cysts and angioyolipomas occur in an estimated 40 to 80 percent of individuals with TSC, usually occurring between ages 20 and 30. Three types of tumors are associated with TSC: cortical tubers, generally form on the surface of the brain, but may also appear in deep areas of the brain; subependymal nodules, which form in the walls of the ventricles the fluid filled cavities of the brain; giant-cell astrocytomas, a type of tumor that can grow and block the flow of fluids within the brain. Cardiac rhabdomyomas are tumors found in the heart of infants and young children. Phakomas are benign tumors found in the eyes, appearing as white patches on the retina. A wide variety of skin abnormalities can occur such as: hypomelanic macules, which are white or lighter patches of skin appearing anywhere; facial angiofibromas also called adenoma sebaceum, which appear on the face and consist of blood vessels and fibrous tissue; forehead plaques, which are common; shagreen patches, usually found on the lower back or the neck; ungula or subungual fibromas that grow around the toenails and fingernails. It’s known that children with TS are a higher risk for several different behavioral problems. The most sever is probably autistic disorder, which usually starts by 36 months and often succeeds early onset seizures. In the preschool years another problem that arises is attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). During adolescence depression, anxiety appears as they try to deal with new demands of maturing and continuing difficulties of chronic medical problems. If medications are given to treat behavioral problems, parents need to be aware of the effects they will have in a child who may have cardiac rhabdomyomas, renal angiomyoplomas or polycystic kidneys, cortical tubers, subependymal nodules. The child with rhabdomyomy may have disturbance in the cardiac rhyme including increased heart rate, complete heart block, junctional ectopic beats, and Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome. With seizures certain drugs can lower the threshold leading to new seizures; breakthrough of se izures in a child who had controlled; or an increased number of seizures in a child with chronic epilepsy. Renal damage from medication is not likely in most drugs used for behavior. Topiramate has caused renal stones in 1-2% of patients. Lithium and carbamazepine can cause a change in the ability of the kidney to concentrate urine. As in other medical problems it is always best to reach what you are taking before taking it. There is no cure TSC, although there are a number of treatments for the symptoms. Because TSC is a life long condition, individuals need to regularly monitor by a doctor the best treatments possible. I think children probably suffer the most having to grow up with chronic medical condition with other kids always making fun of you has to really tough on them. However these types of kids are very loving and don’t take much for granted not much of a pay off, but a good one. With the right medication and treatment plans people with TSC might be able to live comfortably. Research is being done to understand the disorder by learning more the TSC1 and the TSC2 genes and the function of the proteins –tuberin and hamartin produced by these genes. As the research stated, only 87% of homeless youth are enrolled in school and only 77% attend class regularly (National Coalition for the Homeless, n.d.). Many of these conditions are as a direct result of the exposure and lack of shelter that these individuals must integrate with on a daily basis; however, some of them are born out of the psychological effects and temptations that the homeless condition necessarily brings.

Image: ABC AUSTRALIA IS UNDER SIEGE, or at least, thats how ABCs 2017 docu-drama series Ice Wars frames the ever-lurking issue of crystal meth; against dramatic music and flashing imagery of so called ice dens and their denizens, cooks and ice monsters. This hyperbolic name-calling helps nobody, especially not those already embroiled in the stigma surrounding methamphetamines, serving only to further polarise pundits. This leads to similarly overly-authoritative articles such as that from Harm Reduction Australia (HRA), published on February 12, five days after the first episode aired. In their Huffington Post article, titled The ABCs Ice Wars Is Exploiting Vulnerable Addicts, HRA calls for the entire series to be pulled from the network due to a segment following the life of a schizophrenic man addicted to ice. Both texts were written poised to make a positive difference in the community, but are loaded with murky pathos and blinding octane action which topples their ambitions. Information is set into the background, with emotion taking centre stage. It remains to be seen whether this appeal to emotion will propel a stronger community response against the drug, but without the armaments of solid facts to equip it, such a response cannot hold. Per Lees figures, part of her article on the topic titled Ice Wars Message is Overblown and Unhelpful, a miniscule 0.25% of the population over 14 years uses methamphetamines regularly. Despite the evidence, Australians are prone to overestimating the scale of ice use, found an online survey conducted by the National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC). They reported that almost 50% of survey respondents thought 30-100% of Australians had tried ice, with only 14% correctly estimating the figure. The misinformation and misrepresentation left throughout ABCs Ice Wars can only serve to further decrease this figure. Ice Wars, in this regard, is more Highway Patrol than hard-hitting documentary. And the NCPIC, who were responsible for bringing this information to light, despite their usual focus on cannabis? Defunded in December of 2016, the Department of Health citing the release of the National Ice Action Strategy as a major contributing factor. Where is Cannabis Wars, seeing as over 8.3 million Australians have tried the drug? Surely at this figure, friends and members of your family would have to have tried cannabis? Professor Jan Copeland, the former director of the now-defunded NCPIC, said of the research; The most worrying aspect of this is that it normalises ice use in the minds of those who may be thinking of trying it. Ice Wars glosses over these vital statistics, instead foregrounding the more photogenic drug raids and silencing all the above sources. Emotional quotes such as, You lose your soul. You lose everything, are given more time and focus than all of the research conducted on this topic in recent years. Shaky and over-exposed camera angles of barred house fronts with an overlaid narrator talking about the dangers of ice addiction may be more aesthetically appealing, but when Ice Wars employs this and similar visual techniques to heighten the tension and drama and backgrounds crucial information, it does nothing to advance the cause they are championing. It definitely shows something when a hazmat-suited police officer counting numbers off while sorting evidence baggies is better television than an explanation as to what those numbers actually mean. Attempts at fearmongering fall flat trying to leap over the gaps presented in this supposedly educational series. Very interestingly, one of the visual techniques the show uses to fearmonger are several eye-in-the-sky camera angles taken via drone to present an authoritative documentary tone, a tone Harm Reduction Australia unwittingly emulates in their own article. Theres a lot of myths about methamphetamine. Image: ABC The ABCs Ice Wars Is Exploiting Vulnerable Addicts Appeal to Authority Boldly emblazoned, just underneath the catchy head- and by-line of the Huffington Post article, The ABCs Ice Wars Is Exploiting Vulnerable Addicts, are the names and qualifications of the two authors, Gino Vumbaca and Tony Trimingham, president and vice-president of Harm Reduction Australia respectively. For context, Harm Reduction Australia is an organisation dedicated to increasing practices in Australian drug policy which focus more on lessening the impact of drug use in cases where the user is unable or unwilling to stop [using]. Their article, or at least the article co-penned by their president, condemns the ABCs brief focus on an ice user and schizophrenic. When they begin their article with the phrase; à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦we believe there is no option but to call for the rest of the series to be halted from broadcastingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ its unclear whether the we is Vumbaca Trimingham or HRA itself. Later, they attest that It is the policy of NSW Healthà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦, and end their article with a quote from Dr Marianne Jauncey, quick to point out her position as Director of the Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre. The quote itself is largely irrelevant to the rest of the article, exploring a tangent they only lightly touched upon; the issue of misrepresentation. Theres a lot of myths about methamphetamine, she is quoted as saying. Perhaps it is fitting that this quote is used to conclude an article written by people intentionally and artificially exaggerating their status, because stapling her quote to the end of the article does exactly that. This contradiction is exemplified in the following quote: The public have no reason not to believe this [information provided by the ABC] is true given the authoritative nature of the source from which it came. However, it is simply untrueà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Simultaneously rebuking the ABC for an authoritative tone while adopting that very same tone further highlights the emphasis and citations leveraged by Vumbaca Trimingham to promote their ideology. The article discredits sources which discuss statistics, such as ABC Breakfast who claims that it takes 18 months to get off methamphetamine, while heroin only takes 10 days, which while in context was appropriate to Vumbaca Triminghams point, also effectively silences all data surrounding the issue. The ABC series appears to be failing badly on reporting the evidence, posits the article, after itself claiming, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦investment in treatment and support provides far better economic, health and social outcomes than policing, courts and prisonsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ while omitting all evidence. The audience is not given baseline knowledge on the issue but is led to believe the text is an authority on said issue, only muddying the waters further. Act two begins in the common room of The Proctors household. It has been eight days since Abigail and the girls made their accusations against the innocent people within the community of Salem. At the beginning of the scene the common room is empty and the only thing that can be heard is the voice of Elizabeth Proctor softly singing to her children. John soon arrives and as Elizabeth enters the common room the couple engage in a conversation of small talk that appears so painful it suggests tension. It appears that John has done wrong, as he is constantly trying to please her, and yet she seems most unimpressed. The scene progresses as the two sit down for dinner. Their servant, Mary Warren has defied the orders of John and Elizabeth by going to the courts in Salem. Elizabeth informs John that there have been fourteen arrests, she also tells him that the court have the power to hang the accused and that the Deputy Governor promises that people will be hung if they do not confess. John is bewildered by the arrests but reassures Elizabeth that Abigail swore her dancing had nothing to do with witchcraft. Elizabeth wants him to give this statement in court, but he protests that he cannot as Abigail told him this information while they were alone together. On hearing this Elizabeths faith in John is totally demolished, as he had previously told her that Abigail had sworn this with a crowd. John demands that Elizabeth stop judging him, he says that he feels like his home is a courtroom. Elizabeth replies that the real court is in his own heart. At this point John proctors attention is drawn to a noise outside he decides to investigate, as he goes to the door Mary Warren enters, he goes immediately to her and unleashing his anger he grabs her and shakes her violently. He harshly questions her demanding to know why she defied his orders, and left his wife on her own. As if to compensate Mary presents Elizabeth with a doll that she made for her in court. She tells John that there have now been thirty nine arrests, she also reveals that Goody Osburn will hang and that Sarah Good will not as she confessed to making a compact with Lucifer. As John hears this news his guilt (shown by anger) grows, he argues with Mary over whether or not she can return to the witch trials. John inevitably uses violence to try and win his case, and so in defence Mary reveals that she saved the life of Elizabeth earlier that day as her name was brought up in the court. The fact that Elizabeths was mentioned brings Reverend Hale to the Proctors household. He notes several things, for one that their youngest son is not baptized and two, their relationship with Reverend Parris is not one of a positive nature. He also asks them to recite the Ten Commandments. John gives the first nine, and then stumbles ironically on adultery. At this point the stage direction that describes John reads as though a secret arrow had pained his heart, showing the guilt and shame that John Proctor feels as his wife has to remind him of the last commandment. While being questioned by Hale, Giles Corey and Francis Nurse rush into The Proctors home, with news that their wives have been arrested. Soon after, Ezekiel Cheever and Herrick arrive at The Proctors home with a warrant for Elizabeths Arrest. Hale is shocked as, last he heard Elizabeth had not been charged at all. Ezekiel Cheever asks Elizabeth if she has ever kept any dolls, Elizabeth replies that she has not kept a doll since she was a little girl, but Ezekiel sees the doll made my Mary and finds a needle inside it. He immediately relates that Abigail had a fit at dinner that evening and Parris found a needle stabbed into her stomach. He also recalls that Abigail had accused Elizabeth of witchcraft. Elizabeth calls Mary downstairs to tell Ezekiel that it was her that made the doll, but despite Marys statement that she made the doll and Abigail saw her do it, Elizabeth is taken away. Angry Proctor demands that Mary testify against Abigail in court. Mary, who is petrified by Abigail and the power she has over the community, screams that she cannot. Act two plays a vital role within The Crucible by Arthur Miller. As Act two begins we are introduced to the Proctors, as principal characters. John Proctor has appeared in the previous Act, but his wife Elizabeth, though previously described by Abigail, we have never met. However when we do meet her we immediately see a harsh contrast between the Elizabeth earlier described and the Elizabeth now being shown to us. This is important as it allows us to see, Abigails for what she really is. In Act one Abigail describes Goody Proctor as a cold snivelling woman. Also as a liar, she is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me! Implying that Elizabeth is an untrustworthy gossip, and a jealous, spiteful woman. But when she is introduced in Act two she is heard singing softly to her children, Elizabeth is heard singing softly to her children. This tells us that Elizabeth is in fact a warm and loving person. From these quotes we begin to learn about the characters of the two women, we begin to see Elizabeth as a victim and Abigail as a liar, it is also apparent that Abigail feels a strong passion of hate towards Elizabeth. In Act two we see that this hate has arisen from jealousy. An affair, between Abigail and John spirals and escalates into the hysteria of witchcraft. Act two allows us to see the way the affair has affected the lives of the Proctors. Though they both love each other greatly the affair has caused awkwardness between them. As they eat their dinner John tells Elizabeth that he will buy George Jacobs Heifer to make her happy, he then remarks with a grin as indicated by the stage directions, I mean to please you, Elizabeth. The next line belongs to Elizabeth and it reads; I know it, John. It is hard to say is the stage direction that follows this line, and is evidence of the awkwardness that overshadows their relationship. John, experiencing guilt is desperately trying to gain back the trust of Elizabeth. He is constantly aware of her increasing loss of faith in him. Though she denies this loss of faith when confronted, her tone of speech suggests otherwise, and she later admits to keeping a cold house It were a cold house I kept, meaning that she had made sure the house in which they lived was rid of any form of human warmth or emotion. Prevention of teen pregnancy Essay Explain the level of prevention with teen pregnancy (can choose your own level out of the three levels).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Teenage pregnancy has been a major problem not only in the developed world but also recently in the developing nations.   In the US and Canada, due to the increased awareness amongst teenagers, the prevalence of teenage pregnancies is decreasing.   However, in several developing nations, the incidence of teenage pregnancies is on the rise.   In the year 1999, it was found that about 97 teenagers out of every 1000 between the ages of 15 to 19 years were pregnant and about 80 % of them were not desired.    Before the age of 18 years, 80 % of the teenage girls have sex.   The age of menarche has also dropped to 12 to 13 years (Weiss, 2000).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Teenage pregnancies may not be intended for social reasons but due to other including medical and psychological.   The chances of the girl to have a miscarriage, abortion, stillborn baby, etc, are reasonable higher.   These girls are usually the ones who belong to the lower socioeconomic groups and the chances of living in poverty are realistically higher.   The financial burden on the woman would also increase, as she would now have to leave her studies and pick up some job in order to support her child.   Children born from a teen mother are frequently underweight and are at a high risk of developing health problems.   Due to a number of causes, it is always preferred that teenage pregnancies are prevented.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There are three different levels of prevention when it comes to teenage pregnancies.   These include primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention.   Primary prevention includes measures to prevent pregnancies through physical or other methods.   These include use of contraceptive pills, condoms, etc.   This helps to reduce minimize the risk of getting pregnant.   Secondary prevention includes checkups, scans, etc, to ensure that the girl does not get pregnant.   This is usually followed if primary prevention is not enabled.   Tertiary prevention of includes taking measures to prevent any further pregnancies after one has already occurred in the teenage girls.   The best level of prevention would be primary prevention (Connelly Inui, 2004).  Ã‚               How might this specific level of prevention be addressed in a community experiencing an increase in family violence.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There are several measures which need to be adopted for primary prevention of teenage pregnancies.   These include health education, sex education, school and college based programs, health services, use of condoms, use of contraceptives (birth control pills), etc.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the teen pregnancy prevention program several people belonging to the community should be involved including the teenagers, parents, teachers, legislatures, administrators, professionals, media, medical professionals, School authorities, etc.   It is important that the entire community be involved in the program, as teenage pregnancy is a multi-faceted issue.   People are advised to develop responsible health attitudes, behavior and practices regarding teenage pregnancy.  Ã‚   The program should be much more than just offering health services and counselling services.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The program should take place at several places including schools, colleges, health centers, public health centers, community discussions, etc.   The targets of such programs should be more realistic and achievable.   Both the boy and girl should actively take part in such programs.   At all stages, it is very important that the family and the parents are involved.   Besides, resources and materials such as condoms, birth control pills, education material, counselling services, etc, should be provided.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the teenage pregnancy prevention program, multiple agencies should be involved.   In the planning and implementation of the program, teenagers themselves should be involved.   The parents should educate and create awareness in their children about sex and pregnancy during the childhood stage itself.   Hence, involvement of the parents is also required.   Mobile services would also help to create awareness in rural and far-flung areas.   The trust should be in creating increased levels of confidence, self-esteem and decision-making amongst teenagers.   Teenagers should also be educated about drug abuse and alcohol abuse.   Drug abuse can affect judgment, which can lead to irresponsible sex behavior. Explain why a comprehensive health program should address all three levels of prevention.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Teenage pregnancy programs need to address all the levels of prevention, as focusing on one single level of prevention and ignoring others would create bias and negative attitudes of the community to those girls who have already become pregnant.   As the rates of teenage pregnancy are reasonable high and a significant number of girls become pregnant during the teenage period, there are high chances that they would lead a miserable life.   This may make it all that more difficult to enable the process of primary prevention.   Several facilities such as health education, medical services for the mother and the child, housing, financial support, nursing homes, counselling, etc, need to be provided.   It is important that teenagers who become pregnant be given all the care and love during the pregnancy period and not be driven out of the house.   Pregnant girls should also be given counselling services as they would not know much of the manner in which their healthcare needs have to be met.   They should be specifically warned about drug abuse and smoking during this period. The focus should be on ensuring that the mother and child are healthy and do not suffer.   During the pregnancy period, the young father should be supportive of the girl.   The young mother should also be educated about the manner in which abuse and neglect need to be tackled.
